That will produce the following dialog window. ![]() Then at the bottom we have the Export button. There is also extended support for totally roll-your-own UIs which we’ll return to shortly. We now have GUI options which are basically themes of UI appearance for automatically generated graphics. Here we can name the script file and call it up for editing (your choice of text editor). New to the development UI is the Edit panel that appears when clicking on the pencil icon. Blue Cat has publically stated the desire to provide that capability at some future date, but cautions that it might never happen. While we’re on this subject, note that that AU exports are not an option. The platform now has the ability to generate self-contained VST (VST 2, that is) module packages that can be run on PCs and Macs, with both 32-bit and 64-bit operation supported. ![]() That has all changed with Plug’n Script V3. What was missing was any appeal this platform had to the individual who wanted to use it to distribute what they had created. Not only could ideas be quickly tried, the scripting code could, with just a bit of work, be compiled, resulting in improved performance. For any developer wanting a quick platform on which to try ideas, Plug’n Script made lots of sense. Now, Plug’n Script still had a compelling reason to exist. A user who wished to distribute his or her creation, whether free or commercially, was out of luck. There was one big shortcoming with the original version of Plug’n Script: only other owners of the tool could run the plug-ins produced with the tool. However, Blue Cat allows custom GUIs to be built, using its own KUIML skin-specification language. Plug’n Script generates a default GUI and the developer need do almost nothing if the default UI is adequate. AngelScript code looks very much like C/C++ code, and Plug’n Script scripts can be turned into compilable C/C++ for maximal execution speed. It uses a commonly-found scripting language, AngelScript, to define the processing logic. Plug’n Script is a development platform that can rapidly build audio effects. Blue Cat sales happen from time to time and it can be purchased for less on occasion. Plug’n Script is available in all mainstream formats and will be compatible with any mainstream DAW. Lets’ very quickly get the essentials out of the way. To recap very briefly, though, here are the essentials. We will restrict our coverage here to just what’s new, and there are two very significant enhancements that should open interest in Plug’n Script to a much wider audience than the first version. ![]() In late 2017, Blue Cat released version 3 of Plug’n Script. I reviewed the initial version of Plug’n Script and that article may be found here. It could be used to quickly, and without a lot of dedicated study, build usable, useful audio plug-ins. Now they can share those creations with everyone.īlue Cat Audio released a rather unique plug-in a couple of years ago, the Plug’n Script development platform. Blue Cat Audio’s Plug’n Script opened up possibilities for amateur developers to produce their own audio plug-ins. ![]()
